Biography

Police Major General Vitaliy Zakharchenko[7] graduated on the Riga branch of the Minsk Higher School of Interior of the USSR in 1991.[8][9] He had began his career in the police of the Donetsk Oblast in July 1981.[7][9][10] From May 2008 to June 2010 he held leading positions in the State Tax Administration in Poltava Oblast.[9] President Viktor Yanukovych appoints Zakharchenko as head of the State Tax Administration of Ukraine on December 25, 2010.[11][7] On 7 November 2011 Yanukovych appointed Zakharchenko Minister of Internal Affairs; replacing Anatolii Mohyliov who was appointed the new Prime Minister of Crimea[5][6]; simultaneously Yanukovych appointed Oleksandr Klymenko as head of the State Tax Administration of Ukraine.[12]

According to Ukrainian media Zakharchenko is a close friend of President Yanukovych' son Viktor Yanukovych.[7][9][10] Since he is an officer of the Interior Ministry he is not allowed to be member of a political party.[2][1]
